B-ball update...

Oldest to newest...
Saturday (2/18) No rec game, as we took The Playmaker up to our alma mater to catch a game.

Sunday (2/19) Won the Metro game by one point.  The Playmaker had 2 pts (16 footer straight-on), 1 assist, 2 rebounds.

Monday (2/20) Started the Vacation Week Tournament with a win.  The Playmaker had 4 points, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 rebounds.

Tuesday (2/21) Advanced to the semi-finals with a 20+ point victory.  The Boy had 2 points, 4 assists, 1 rebound, 1 steal.

Today (2/25) The Playmaker played a triple header and won all three games.  In the morning he had 8 points (4-4 shooting), 3 assists and 3 rebounds to help his Metro team advance to the finals of their tournament.  His team then won the championship (and suh-weeeet trophies) by 10 points.  The Playmaker had a quiet game, with 0 points (0-2 shooting), 1 assist, 2 rebounds, 2 steals.  After that game, he had a rec game (which we tried to convince him to skip).  Playing on EMPTY with absolutely no legs, he struggled in the first half, as did the rest of the Grizzlies.  At halftime we ripped him a new one in private, and we then ripped the entire team a collective new one.  We trailed by one with under a minute to play.  We called timeout to set up an in bounds play under the hoop.  We ran The Playmaker off a double pick and freed him up for a little five footer along the left baseline.  He nailed the game winner and then got the defensive rebound at the other end and dribbled out the clock.  The Grizzlies are now 8-2 on the season.

Six games in seven days.

Wow.

What we're watching...

Nets @ Knicks.  First sustained look at Jeremy Lin.  Fun to watch, and easy to cheer for.  Lin, that is.  Not the Knicks.

Dude, mix in a salad...

Biggest thing we took away from NC State legend Chris Corchiani getting ejected from yesterday's Wolfpack game?!?

The fact the dude looks like he weighs about 265.

Good gawd, man.

Never too early...

Baseball is less than two months away.  Basketball is done in three weeks.

Put the two together and what do you get?!?

The fact that The Playmaker begins his "private" workouts with a local college baseball coach today.  Sounds bigger than it really is.  It's once a week for an hour.  Just trying to shake the rust off the swing.  And want to see if the coach can "extend" The Playmaker's throwing motion.  (He kind of short-arms some of this throws, which cuts down on distance and velocity.)

We'll see...

Hoops...

Saturday Your Memphis Grizzlies won their sixth game in a row, 38-34, to bring their season mark to 6-2.  The Playmaker led the way with 14 points (7-13 shooting), 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 blocks.  He was matched up against a player from his Metro team and held the kid to just 6 points, while punching 3 of his shots (despite the boy having 2 inches on Our Son.)  Sunday, the Metro team defeated the second place team, 38-36.  They are now 5-4 on the season.  The Playmaker had 2 points (1-1 shooting).  He nailed an 8-footer on the left wing to tie the game at 32 in the fourth quarter.  He also had 1 assist and 2 steals.

Dumbest thing we've ever heard. EVER!!!

Heard some LOSERS today trying to say flabby Paul Pierce is a better player than Larry Bird ever was.

A bash-Brady free post...

Basketball update...

The Playmaker won his fifth consecutive rec game last Saturday.  We are now in second place with a 5-2 record. He scored 12 points, to go with 5 rebounds and 2 assists.  He shot the ball well, going 5-8 from the floor and 2-2 from the foul line.  A bit of controversy, however, as the other coach chose to enforce EVERY rule in the rule book.  We did not even know it was possible to foul out of a rec game.  Yet with under a minute to play in sixth quarter (we play a total of eight), he proudly announced that Our Son had four fouls.  During a stop in play, we called The Playmaker over and explained the situation and switched him off of the other team's best player.  We also told him to, "Play smart."  Of course, the next time down on defense he got caught reaching in and picked up his fifth foul of the game.  At that point, we ripped him a new one on the sideline for doing exactly what we told him not to do.  Of course, most (though certainly not all) of our anger was on account of the douche bag coach at the other end of the court.  Anyway, with The Playmaker sitting on the bench for the final quarter, we won 31-22.  In your face, Walnut Heights!

On Sunday, his Metro team won its fourth game in a row to reach the .500 mark (4-4).  For the second game in a row The Playmaker started at the 2.  Also for the second game in a row, he scored the first hoop of the game.  This time it was a 7 footer along the left baseline on the first possession of the game.  Overall, he had 3 (1-3 shooting) points, 2 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

Back for more...

More thoughts on Sunday's Super Bowl...

1. AMAZING that the majority of the people are still blaming Wes Welker for the loss!  True story.  After the two incomplete passes to Welker and Deion Branch, we announced to The Family, "Brady just cost them the Super Bowl."  Those two passes SUCKED.  Case closed.

2. Think about the aforementioned quote!  How did we know that Brady's crappy passes would cost the Patriots the Super Bowl?!?  Because the Pats' defense, all in all, sucked all season.  There was NO WAY they were going to come out and stonewall Eli and the Giants.  Memo to Coach Bill: Go out and draft a pass rusher in the first round.  (And with your second first round pick, go get a deep threat for Brady.)

3. Other than Brady, who else SUCKED?!?  Logan Mankins got abused on Sunday.  Not surprising, as he was awful the entire season.  The fact he was voted to the Pro Bowl was as big a joke as the game itself.  Also, did Jerod Mayo play on Sunday?!?  Seriously.  Did he?!?  We don't remember him doing anything.  He was badly outplayed by Brandon Spikes.  We've never said that before.  Ouch.  And what about Patrick Chung?!?  He spent the entire game getting physically abused by backs and receivers.  Yet each time he got run over (literally), he would get up woofing and gyrating.  And on the great catch by Mario Manningham?!?  Chung was 1.5 seconds late (an eternity in the NFL).  He should have been there to break up the pass or deliver a big hit to force the interception.

4. What about the interception?!?  Forget about the debate on the pass to Welker.  Why is NO ONE talking about Mr. Gisele's fourth quarter interception?!?  That was another play that was killer.  A simply pathetic pass.

Super Bowl thoughts...

1. Eli is now a better QB than Tom Brady!  We felt this way six weeks ago, and the playoffs did nothing but confirm our opinion.  Is Brady still a great QB?!?  Mmm ... tough call.  We'd say he is still very good.  And before you say, Wait, Eli has so many more weapons to use! we'd counter by saying Tom Brady is allowed to do much more than Manning.  He throws the ball 40+ times a game.  Tom Coughlin will never allow Eli to do that consistently.  Ask yourself this: Did you have any doubt that when Eli got the ball for the final time that he would move them down the field?!?  If you're honest, the answer would be no.  Yet with just under a minute to play, did you really think Brady was going to move his team down the field?!?  See what we mean?!?

2. Except for two drives, Brady SUCKED!  And sucked a lot!  That safety on his first play from scrimmage?!?  Killer.  Absolutely killer.  It's something a rookie does.  It's something Eli used to do.  QBs who suck do it.  It was an awful play.  And Brady's been making a lot of those lately.  That interception he had?!?  Again, a piss-poor play.  Gronk was open and Bradly badly under-threw him.  How do you under-throw a guy who is playing with a busted ankle?!?  Seriously.  How is that even possible?!?

3. Why are we blaming Wes Welker for the loss?!?  That pass he "dropped" late in the fourth quarter was about 5 percent his fault.  The other 95 percent falls on Brady's once powerful shoulders. The pass was high and, more importantly, behind him.  If he had made that twisting catch, you would have turned to the person next to you and said, "Wow, what a great catch!"  The fact is he was open and Brady again ... wait for it ... made a terrible pass.  Not content with that boner, his next pass to an open Deion Branch was ... behind him.  SHOCKER!  If either one of those passes is on the mark, the Patriots run out the clock and win the game.

4. Gisele is a frigging tool!  Some cheesy entertainment show caught her responding to taunting Giants fans by saying, "My husband can not f------ throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times."  We can't stand her.  Never have.  We don't even think she's hot.  In fact, she does N-O-T-H-I-N-G for us.  And she's turned Tom Brady into a Girly Man.  The stupid haircut.  The too-tight sport coat with the loser handkerchief in the pocket.  It's all Gisele.  And the e-mail that was "hacked" by the New York media?!?  Does anyone really think she didn't link it to the press for publicity?!?  Puh-lease.  She is a total fraud.  Right down to her staged post game comforting hug she gave #12.  We are pretty sure we just threw up in our mouth.

Not much has changed...

Two weeks ago, we said it would be Giants 30 Patriots 24.  After listening to 14 days of endless (if not mindless) talk, we still think the Giants will win.  But we are scaling it back to 27-24.  Sure hope we're wrong and that we get to see Tiquan Underwood Ryan Mallett hoist the Super Bowl Trophy.

(By the way, we will be making wings and ribs for dinner.)

Cruel, but true...

Josh Hamilton is a L-O-S-E-R!  We've always despised him.  He is a weak, pathetic human being.  A poor excuse for a man.  Spare us the Oh, but he has a DISEASE crap.  No he doesn't.  Unless being a piece of sheeet counts as one.  Seriously, the dude should think about doing his family a favor and Seau-ing himself.

Hoops Rewind...

The Playmaker's Metro team won its third straight game last Sunday to improve to 3-4.  He had 5 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.  His best hoop was 10 foot swish from the right wing.  He's in a bit of a shooting slump, as he went 2-6 from the floor (on the heels of the previous game's 0-6, 1 point debacle).  We got after it in the driveway Monday afternoon and he responded with 8 points (4-5 shooting) in Tuesday night's scrimmage portion of practice.

This weather SUCKS...

But as long as it's going to be 60 degrees on the first day of February, we may as well shake off some of the baseball rust.  Took The Playmaker down to the field to hit in the cage.  Damn thing was locked, so we went on the actual field.  Did 30 minutes of fielding, including working on his catcher's throw to second base.  Then we threw 30 minutes of BP to him.  Fielding and throwing were good.  As for the hitting?!?  Well, that's why we practice right?!?  Then again, it was the first time he'd swung a bad since last June.  Small steps.  Small steps.
