Zzzzzzzz...
Just finished our fourth game in 18 hours. Two soccer games (one in last night's hurricane) and two AAU basketball games. Updates another day. Time to eat, watch college football, pass-out.

Everyone know who we are...
Bagged our first flag football W of the season last night, 18-16. The Playmaker led the way. On defense he made an interception on the second play of the game, which led to our first score. He shared QB duties in the second half. After taking a HUGE sack on third down (and getting reamed out by his coach-slash-father), which put the ball on our own one yard line, he faced a 4th and forever with about 4 minutes to play. He took the snap, couldn't find anyone open, and got pressure from the pass rusher coming from his left. He rolled to his right and found his tight end open along the sideline about 12 yards away. Throwing on the run, he zipped a tight one which his football/AAU teammate caught, tucked and ran with all the way to the end zone. Our record is now 1-1.

We lost...
32-22 in flag Tuesday night. We are the youngest team in the league (we have all 5th graders playing in a 5th/6th grade league), so the losses will be plentiful, no doubt. The Playmaker made a spectacular leaping interception in a crowd to give us a short field, up 22-20 with 10 minutes to go. After that, however, we did squat. For the game, The Playmaker had two receptions (both for first downs), and a double-reverse rush for 8 yards. Oh, and he had that really nifty pick on defense.

Opening game...
The official flag football season starts tonight. We used to get stressed out about wins and losses ... we'd spend an actual hour or so game-planning for each game. Not so much anymore. We just want the kids to have fun and for The Playmaker to do well.

Much better...
Had another flag football scrimmage last night. Results were much better than the first scrimmage. We won, 21-7. The Playmaker caught a TD and also threw for one. We open up for real next week. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Update...
Brent Suicide Pool: Took the Patriots last Sunday, like most of the free world. Like most of the free world, we got booted when Gostowski CHOKED on his easy field goal attempt.
Soccer: The Playmaker's travel team improved to 2-0 last week with a 1-0 win. He played goalie for both games (playing in net one half of each game). The first game (a 7-2 win), he made four saves and let in one goal. This past Saturday, he made five saves and let in zero goals. So for the season he has faced 10 shots and yielded one goal. The other goalie on the team has faced just two shots, allowing one. In other words, The Playmaker stops 90 percent of the shots he faces. The Other Kid stops just 50 percent of his shots. Fact.
Flag football: We got our ass kicked in a scrimmage Tuesday night, despite losing just 6-0. Season opens for real next Tuesday.
Basketball: The Playmaker was asked to play for a local AAU team this fall. The first tournament is 10 days away.

One good, one not good
With Loser Gostowski C-H-O-K-I-N-G on his easy field goal attempt Sunday, we got booted from the Brent Suicide Pool after just two weeks. That pain was completely forgotten when The Playmaker's Sister came home last night and announced she scored the only two field hockey goals her team got in its intrasquad scrimmage. Woo! Hoo!

Here's our fantasy...
Playing in two fantasy leagues this year. One with the guys in town (big bucks). One with Our Dad, The Playmaker and The Playmaker's Sister (i.e. the computer). Off to a good start this past Sunday, going a crisp 2-0.
Big Bucks
We won, 133-120. Aaron Rodgers (first pick in the draft) had a pedestrian 24 points, followed by Jeremy Maclin (22), Frank Gore (21), Aaron Hernandez (17) and the Ultimate Weapon -- David Akers (16). The Bears defense got us 13, A.J. Green 12 and Torrey Smith 8. Somehow the W was secured by the fact that one of our starting backs (that would be Felix Jones) had ZERO points. In a 16 team league, the talent runs dry in a second. To wit, our bench sucks. It consists of Matt Cassel, Shane Vereen and two local favorites Ryan Broyles (OU) and Bryce Brown (Eagles).
Family Fun
Conversely, with just four teams, the talent runs deep and wide with this team-slash-league. Here is our BENCH from week one: Trent Richardson, Reggie Bush, the aforementioned Bryce Brown, Phillip Rivers, Jeremy Maclin, A.J. Green and Jordy Nelson. We won here, 114-96. Our starters were: Drew Brees, Shady McCoy, Darren Sproles, The Johnson Boys (Calvin & Andre), Aaron Hernandez, Victor Cruz (UMass) and Stephen Gostowski.
On a side note, we are (once again) in the Brent Suicide Pool. We went with the Texans and survived week one. Not so lucky were the five people who took either the Saints or the Bengals.

Back to work...
Not sure how 11 weeks came and went, but it sure was fun. And, man, did it seem long -- in the best of ways! Alas, summer's over and we went to work today. The students will roll in tomorrow.
Gosh, we're exhausted. Ugh.

Every Labor Day
we read an old Sports Illustrated article from 8/31/87 on Oklahoma QB
Jamelle Holieway. The last two lines sum up the day -- the final one of
summer.
"That said, J-Boe goes
inside to start packing. Summer's over."

Opening Saturday of College Football...
We worked out. Then took The Playmaker to the courts for a "hard" 45 minute basketball workout. Stopped at Dunkin' Donuts and got home in time for College GameDay. Then we settled in for 14 hours of college football. No lie. Started with Penn State at noon and finished with Arizona winning in overtime just past 2 AM. We did fall asleep for about 45 minutes during the Michigan beatdown, but we were awake at 10:29 to put OUr Sooners on. Equally impressive as the 14 hours of viewing?!? Not only are we still married, but we blasted out a whopping 124(!) tweets yesterday.

College Football Saturday, 1.0
1. Wide open national championship! USC? Not sure on the defense. Not sure Colin Cowherd Lane Kiffin is a championship coach. Alabama? No one repeats in college football. Oklahoma? Landry Jones hasn't shown he can survive without Ryan Broyles.
2. What about LSU?!? Bam! We have a winner. By process of elimination we are going with The Sons of Lester. Great D, as always. And losing Jordan Jefferson at QB is addition by subtraction -- duh.
3. October 20! Charlie Weiss brings his Kansas Jayhawks to Norman, Oklahoma. Stone cold mortal lock: Uncle Charlie and Mike Stoops will come to blows. Charlie fancies himself a New Jersey tough guy. Bob's brother Mike is notorious for being a wild man off the field. On the field, he's crazy, too. We'll never forget the time the Stoops Brothers dropped 45 on Lester's Oklahoma State Misfits. Lester had talked sheeeet the entire week leading up to the game. With under a minute to go, ahead 45-10, Mike Stoops walked have way across the field and screamed at Lester, "Had enough?!?" Classic. We love the guy.
4. College GameDay! The powder puff piece on former employee Urban Meyer not withstanding, it's the best football show (college or pro) on the planet. Chris Fowler was once our BFF 15 years ago when we shared weekly phone calls during the season. That ended when we criticized his beloved alma mater, Colorado. Regardless, the man knows college football, as does sidekick Kirk Herbstreit -- the smartest man in college football. And we always love reading the fan signs every Saturday morning. (Note the one to the right of Herbie's finely coiffed head.)
So enjoy the games. We will be watching for 12 straight hours, if not more. Depends on when we
