Woo! Hoo!
We cut the lawn yesterday and then ran our AAU practice. We now have no sports until next Wednesday. And we canceled on getting together tonight with friends for a BBQ. Yes, the three day weekend is here. And we're more than ready for a weekend of relaxation, good eats and family time.
So enjoy the weekend. Stay safe. And don't forget why we actually get to stay home from work on Monday.

All we need is one pin, Rodney...
Had our final AAU practice tonight until next Thursday. We have a sports free weekend, our first since September. Wow.

Wow...
Trailing by 3 runs in the last inning tonight, we put up a 4 spot win the game, 15-14. The Playmaker pitched the third and fourth innings. He gave up 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 4. At the plate, he was 2-2 with 2 RBIs and a walk. He had a double in the first inning and a single in the fourth. The win was huge as it clinched the third seed in the playoffs.

Baseball ... Ugh
We lost again in baseball yesterday. The Playmaker pitched the 2nd and 3rd innings. He yielded 1 walk, 2 hits and no runs. He also struck out 3. When he left the game we were winning, 7-4. One inning later, with our new pitcher, we were down 8-7 -- which was the final score. At the plate The Playmaker was 0-2 with a walk and an RBI.

AAU: Much better...
After last night's crappy performance, The Playmaker got back on track today. As the starting 2 guard, he scored 6 points in our first game on 3-8 shooting. He rattled in a 14 footer from the wing, had an offensive rebound put-back and a foul line jumper. In the second game (again the starting 2 guard) he had 5 points on 2-5 shooting. He got the first hoop of the game on a pull-up jumper at the right elbow. He was 1-2 from the foul line. His final hoop was his best one of the AAU season. He got the ball deep on the right wing. He immediately did a shot fake to get his man off the ground. He then took one dribble to the hoop and instead of driving in (as he likes to do), he pulled up and nailed it from 12 feet. We work all the time on shot fakes in practice, but most 11 year olds never use the move in games. At least for one possession, The Playmaker implemented and executed the move to perfection.
Oh, yeah. We lost both games. But who cares?!?

Thud...
Got an AAU win last night. Trailed by 5 with 4 mins to go, ended up winning by 4. Unfortunately The Playmaker played like crap. The one positive? He was the starting 2 guard.

Going for the W tonight...
Our baseball team stands at 2-5. Tonight we play a team we've already defeated. The Playmaker will be pitching innings 2 & 3.

AAU x 3
The Playmaker started at point guard Friday night. He scored 4 pts. Yesterday he also scored 4 points, both baskets coming on 15 foot jumpers. In the third game he was out of gas and scored ... wait for it ... zero points.

9 outs ... 6 strikeouts
We beat the neighboring town last night, 13-11. The Playmaker was the starting pitcher. He produced the following line:
3 innings pitched (first time ever)
2 hits
2 walks
6 strikeouts
1 run
When he came out after three, we were ahead, 7-1. The bullpen promptly gave up 7 runs in the very next inning, costing him the W.
Still...

3 RBI's, a loss, a near brawl...
We lost yesterday in baseball, 15-13. The Playmaker was 2-3 with 3 RBI's. He singled in run in the first on a line drive to right. In the third he doubled home two runs with a shot to center. With two men on in the fourth and two outs with our best hitter up, the opposing coach intentionally walked the kid. We had a heated discussion with the A-hole and called him an "effing pu$$y." He told us he'd been called worse and walked away.
Can't make this stuff up.

Resting up for tomorrow's tilt...
The Playmaker has a baseball game this afternoon, but he is not pitching. Instead we are holding him out until tomorrow's game with a neighboring town (our only such game of the season).

Same old, same old...
Had baseball yesterday afternoon. Same story as always: The Playmaker played well and we lost. He was the starting pitcher. He went two innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and striking out 3. When he left the game we were up, 6-1. Of course, we lost, 15-12. Ugh. At the plate he was 1-1 with a bases loaded 2 RBI single. He also walked and was hit by a pitch.
We are now a robust oh-and-3 for the season.

Great performance, bad loss
Drove to the ghetto at 6:15 this morning in order to get there in time for our 8 AM AAU game. Too bad the other team never showed. (Pu$$ies...)
So we sat around for 90 minutes until our next game. We dominated the entire contest. With four minutes to play, we held a 9 point lead. And then?!?
Yup, lost by 1 in overtime.
C R I P E S!
The good news is The Playmaker had his best all around game of his AAU career. He started at point guard and played 27 of the 32 minutes. He had 8 points (4-9 shooting), 4 assists, 2 steals, 2 rebounds and just 2 turnovers. He guarded the other team's PG/best player for most of the game. A N D both teams pressed the entire 32 minutes -- so he was exhausted. In the land of Rick Pitino, The Playmaker came up with 6 deflections.
When the game was over and we shook hands, the opposing coach pulled Our Son to the side and told him he "played an unbelievable game...Unbelievable."

Good game, bad loss
Opening Day in baseball for The Playmaker yesterday. He was the starting shortstop. He singled in the opening stanza to drive in our first run of the game/season. After two innings we trailed, 6-1. He came in to pitch in the third inning. He notched a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout, pop out, strike out. In the fourth inning he gave up a single and a walk, but struck out the cleanup hitter with runners on first and third to get out of the inning. His pitching line was: 2 innings pitched, 1 hit, 1 walk, 0 runs, 4 K's. When he left after four, we were ahead 8-6 and he was in line to get the W. Unfortunately the kid who relieved him sheeeeeet the bed and gave up 6 runs over the final two innings. We ended up losing, 12-9. At the plate, The Playmaker was 1-1 with 2 RBIs and 2 walks (one with the bases loaded). Oh, yeah, in the fifth inning he played catcher and nailed a kid trying to steal second.

16-10...
The Playmaker's Sister played her second lacrosse game of the year today. Her team beat the town we teach in, 16-10.
Everyone know who we are...
She played attack and had one assist.
We watched from the bleachers and signed autographs.
(Teddy: "Not really.")
