Texas Tech's Upset of Texas: Three & Out

1. What a great second half of the Texas-Texas Tech game Saturday night. Trailing 22-6 at halftime, the Longhorns stormed back to take the lead 33-32 with just 1:29 remaining. That, of course, was more than enough time for the Red Raiders to drive down the field 62 yards in six plays. All-American Michael Crabtree scored on a 28-yard reception with just one second remaining to give Tech a 39-33 upset of top ranked Texas.

2. We find it absolutely hilarious those "experts" (a relative term) who now say TT quarterback Graham Harrell is the Heisman leader over Texas QB Colt McCoy. They may as well rename the Heisman as The Best Player on the Best Team. Granted, McCoy's numbers weren't, for him, great (20-34, 294 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT). But if he was truly the best player coming into the game, how does a six point loss on the road change that? This crap started back in 1989 when Notre Dame was the top ranked team and some fools thought that meant QB Tony Rice should be the Heisman winner.

3. The ESPN love-fest over Bobby Knight started last winter after the coach QUIT on his team and went into the studio. However, it took on a higher level Saturday when College GameDay had him on its show and allowed him to predict games. When it came time to pick the Texas Tech - Texas game, the former Texas Tech coach (who QUIT on his team in the middle of last season) said the game was too close to predict. He would only say that if Tech's line play was superior, they would win. If not, the Longhorns would win. Clearly, Knight felt Texas was going to win, but he did not have the guts to go against his former school (and in front of their fans, as GameDay was broadcasting on-campus). Even worse, during ESPN's SportsCenter (after the game), a graphic of Knight's picks was shown. Amazingly, they gave him credit for picking Texas Tech to defeat Texas. Nice to know the World Wide Leader is not above outright lying to make itself look good.
