College Football, 3.0 - Opening Day

We have been looking forward to this day since January 1st. Autumn Saturdays = college football games on the 50 inch HD TV from noon until well past midnight. But first, we have a sighting. In this case, it's a shark sighting. Off the coast of Chatham -- where we once spent a weekend. And it's not just any old shark. It's a frigging Great White Shark.

"I'll catch that bird for ya. But it's not gonna be pretty."

Anyway, on to (the TV) games:

Navy @ Ohio State -- We are in the clear minority here, but we still say Terrelle Pryor is terribly overrated. Part of it is the fact he plays in the Big Ten, which, in terms of football talent, is on par with the Tri Valley League. Even with our bum knee and the fact that we are 41, we could definitely step into that league and be an average cover corner. Ohio State 38 Navy 7

Minnesota @ Syracuse -- Why is this game on TV? Two crap teams from two crap conferences. Minnesota 6 Syracuse 3

Georgia @ Oklahoma State -- This one should be a doozie! OS-Who sports two players in running back Kendall Hunter and flanker Dez Bryant, who are future first round draft picks. Yet in the land of Sooners and Longhorns, they don't get a lot of run in the media. The Dawgs, of course, come from the SEC -- which gives them instant street cred. (Despite the fact they never do much in that league.) Hats off to both schools for playing the game. Oklahoma State 28 Georgia 21

Missouri @ Illinois -- Former Mizzu All American Jeremy Maclin was a late round pick for us in last week's fantasy football draft. Illinois 3 Missouri 2

Western Michigan @ Michigan -- Published reports indicate Michigan has been practicing long and hard for this game. (Wink-wink.) Coach Rich's team (most of which hates him) is a 13 point favorite. Hmm...in many games last year the Wolverines didn't even score 13 points. The only way RichRod surives another season in The Big House is if he gets to a bowl game this year. Michigan 24 Western Michigan 14

San Jose State @ USC -- Coach Pete keeps on churning out Ws. This one will come with a true frosh at QB -- star in waiting Matt Barkley. USC 45 San Jose (Canseco) State 7

Nevada @ Notre Dame -- The Fighting Irish are 14 point favorites. We say they will barely win. Notre Dame 21 Nevada 17

BYU v Oklahoma -- This one will be close for a while. Sam Bradford will miss security blanket TE Jermaine Gresham, out with a bad knee. (Welcome to Our World.) Oklahoma 38 BYU 27

Alabama v Virginia Tech -- Frank Beamer is a good man and a good coach. But that does not excuse the fact that Vah-Tek is the most overrated team year after year. They are still living off the Michael Vick era. We're not sure they will even get a first down against Nick Saban's D. Alabama 20 Virginia Tech 3

Maryland @ Cal -- Who cares who wins?!? Just the fact that we will be on the couch at 10:30 PM watching the kickoff is a frigging great thing. Cal 27 Maryland 14

LSU @ Washington -- See Maryland/Cal comments. LSU 28 Washington 7

Enjoy the games. And don't call, text, e-mail or IM. Cause we ain't gettin' back to you. Not today, anyway.
