W is for WIN...

Lots of Wins lately. To wit:

k
1. The Phillies -- They took three out of four from the hapless Mets over the weekend. And they got a complete game shutout from Cliff Lee against the Nationals last night.
k
2. The Eagles -- The defense and the special teams both scored touchdowns in the opening day win against the Panthers. Unfortunately, #5 is injured yet again -- this time with a busted rib. The good news is once and for all Big Andy will see that backup Kevin Kolb will never (never!) be a good QB. This week they face the Saints and Drew Brees. Which brings us to...
k
3. Fantasy Football -- We won our first game, crushing our over-matched opponent by a score of 96-76. Our Big Gun was QB Drew Brees, who accounted for half (half!) of our points. He was followed by Larry Fitzgerald (13), Ron Grant (12), David Akers (8), Clinton Portis (7), Dallas Clarke (3), Antonio Bryant (2), Dallas' defefense (2) and Eddie Royal (1). A win is a win, but we clearly got very little from receivers Bryant and Royal. Our backup is Jeremy Maclin, a personal pick of The Playmaker. So this morning we hit the waiver wire and bypassed top rated Antwaan Randle El in favor of Robert Meachem. Later, we went after Mark Clayton (an OU Guy, of course), but he had already been picked up. (Michael Crabtree hit the waiver wire today and we are oh-so-tempted to stash him on our roster for a rainy day -- assuming he ever signs his contract, of course.) Finally, we dumped Dallas' defense (which we just picked up Sunday morning after waiving Carolina's D) and acquired Atlanta's.
k
4. The Patriots -- Good gawd, man, if every MNF game started at 7 PM, this would be a better world. We watched the whole game and still made it to bed by 10:15. And thank goodness the Pats beat Buffalo, because we had them in our Brent Musburger NFL Suicide Pool. However, we were less than impressed by New England. Perhaps we simply were expecting too much. But they don't seem to have any playmakers on defense (outside of tackle Vince Wilfork). They will be good this season. The question is how good.
